dress code

In order for our teachers to ensure proper placement and technique, students must be dressed properly for dance classes.

  • Preschool 1 & 2: light pink leotard, ballet pink tights, pink ballet shoes, tan tap shoes, hair up and pulled away from face (skirts/dresses are optional, but must be pink)

  • Combo 1 & 2: light purple leotard, ballet pink tights, pink ballet shoes, tan tap shoes, hair up and pulled away from face (skirts/dresses are optional, but must be light purple/lavender)

  • Preschool Tumble: pink or lavender leotard, pink or tan stirrup or convertible tights, bare feet, hair up and pulled away from face (if they are also taking Preschool 1/2 or Combo 1/2, they do not need to change but can wear the same outfit for both)

  • Ballet: black leotard, ballet pink tights, pink canvas ballet shoes, hair in a tight bun with no loose hair (black ballet skirt is optional)

  • Acro: black leotard, tan stirrup or convertible tights, bare feet, hair up and pulled away from face (black booty shorts are optional)

  • Jazz: black leotard or black sports bra/trunks, tan or no tights, tan jazz shoes, hair up and pulled away from face (black booty shorts are optional)

  • Lyrical: black leotard or black sports bra/trunks, tan jazz shoes (any style), hair up and pulled away from face (black booty shorts are optional)

  • Tap: black leotard, tan tights, tan tap shoes (any style), hair up and pulled away from face (black booty shorts are optional)

  • Hip Hop: any clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in (NO JEANS), tennis shoes

No oversize t-shirts, baggy shorts or pants, jeans, or other distracting clothing is allowed, as extra clothing impedes movement and hinders placement correction. Hair must be secured off of face for all classes, and a bun is required for all ballet classes. Short hair should be clipped back with barrettes. No jewelry, except small earrings, may be worn to class.

Students must also wear appropriate dance shoes in every class. The following shoes are required:

  • Ballet classes: pink leather or canvas ballet slippers

  • Jazz classes: tan jazz shoes 

  • Lyrical/contemporary classes: tan jazz shoes (any style) and black socks

  • Tap classes: tan tap shoes 

  • Acrobatics: barefoot

  • Hip hop classes: Sneakers or tennis shoes (any style)

  • Cheerleading: Sneakers or tennis shoes (any style)

  • Competitive Cheerleading: Team specific cheer shoes (see front desk)

  • Preschool & Combo classes: Girls - Tan tap shoes & Pink Ballet shoes. Boys - Black Tap shoes and Black ballet shoes.

 

Mark all common items, such as shoes, leotards and tights, with full names. Putting clothing and shoes into a dance bag will greatly decrease the loss of items through mix-ups or theft. Kansas City Dance Company is not responsible for lost, stolen or misplaced articles.
